Travel
The conference will be held in Greensboro, NC. Note that like many American cities outside major urban areas, cars are often preferred for local travel. We will be setting up a carpool spreadsheet for coordination of airport transit closer to the conference times. More travel details are below, including travel grants.
Getting to the University of North Carolina, Greensboro
By air
The closest airport to Greensboro is Piedmont Triad International (GSO). Despite its name, this is relatively small and may be expensive or complicated to fly in to from some locations. It is convenient for the university, as it is only ten miles away. There is no public transport to campus, so you would need to use taxis or rideshare services if you do not want to rent a car.
Raleigh-Durham International is a larger airport that offers more flights but is around 65 miles from Greensboro, so you would need to rent a car. There are plenty of options at the airport, and the journey is relatively straightforward, as you largely take I-40.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport is a major hub but is 95 miles from Greensboro. It is a relatively quick drive, around ninety minutes along I-85, but you would obviously need a rental car.
By rail
Although Greensboro was known as the “Gateway to the South” due to its position on the rail network, service is relatively limited and can be unreliable. There are trains from both Raleigh and Charlotte. Travel from further afield is possible but requires time and planning. You can find rail schedules here at https://www.amtrak.com/home. The train station, the Depot, is about half an hour’s walk from the university, or a short taxi ride.
By road
As the information above suggests, Greensboro is close to major highways, including I-40 and I-85. The university is just off Gate City Boulevard, one of the major roads through the city. There are multistory parking decks on campus, including one next to the building where much of the conference will be help.
Accommodation
Dormitories
The most affordable option is the dormitories. These cost $43 per night, with an additional $25 charge for linens. Details of booking will be available shortly, but enough space has been reserved for everyone attending. The dormitories are around five to ten minutes’ walk, through campus, from the buildings where the conference will be held. Note: dormitories will not be available on May 25 due to the holiday.
Affordable local hotels
If you prefer to stay at a nearby hotel, you may consider the following affordable options:

4400 West Wendover Avenue (5.1 miles from campus)
Drury Inn and Suites
3220 W Gate City Blvd (2.7 miles from campus)
Hyatt Place
1619 Stanley Road (5.1 miles from campus)
Clarion Pointe
7800 National Service Road (9.8 miles from campus)
Other hotels
You may also consider these more expensive options:
